Statement By The Prime Minister Of Canada
February 27, 2010
Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued the following statement on the situation in Chile following the significant earthquake that occurred there earlier today: “On behalf of all Canadians, I extend my deepest sympathies to those who have been affected by the serious earthquake which has struck Chile. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Chile as they respond to this emerging natural disaster. “Canadian officials in Santiago and Ottawa are currently assessing the situation to clarify the extent of the damage as well as to determine the potential impact on Canadians who are currently in Chile. “Canada stands ready to provide any necessary assistance to the people of Chile during this time of need. Our officials in Santiago are contacting appropriate Chilean authorities to determine whether Canadian assistance may be required. “Canadian officials are also closely monitoring the potential implications of the tsunami warning that has been issued across the Pacific Ocean.” |
