OTTAWA – Once again Canadians are being encouraged to submit their suggestions for the next federal budget to the Finance Minister. “I think it is very important for taxpayers to let their government know what they see as immediate and future priorities,” said Leon Benoit, Member of Parliament for Vegreville-Wainwright. “I hope that constituents in this riding will take the time to send in their comments.”
Benoit is referring to the recent launch of national budget consultations* to give Canadians the opportunity to voice their views on how to best lead Canada to full economic recovery as the Government prepares its 2010 budget – the second phase of Canada's Economic Action Plan.
“We are seeking responses from Canadians on a number of questions,” explains Benoit. The topics include:
- To what extent has Canada's Economic Action Plan been effective in stimulating activity in their industry, sector or community?
- What suggestions do they have for improving the effectiveness of the Government's stimulus measures or the speed of their delivery?
- What steps should the Government take to improve the competitiveness of the Canadian economy and ensure that Canada continues to attract investment and create jobs once the recovery is achieved and the Economic Action Plan is wound down?
- Over what time period should the Government bring the budget back into balance?
“I will also asking for feedback on various budget suggestions at the numerous townhalls** I will be hosting throughout the riding towards the end of January,” states Benoit. “I look forward to hearing directly from constituents about their views and priorities.”
