MANNVILLE (April 20, 2009) – On April 16th, 2009 Leon Benoit, Member of Parliament for Vegreville-Wainwright, hosted a Capital Grant

Application Workshop in Vegreville, Alberta.  MP Benoit hosted this workshop to help the towns and counties of the Vegreville –Wainwright constituency understand the grant application process and to help increase their chances of success when applying for funding to improve their roads and sewers.   All towns and counties in Mr. Benoit’s riding were invited to attend with Dr. Julian Martin, Director of the Northern Alberta Ministers’ Regional Office presenting the workshop.   The workshop was well attended with 38 different municipalities and groups represented.  Programs for permanent funding for roads, water, sewer, and buildings along with one-time stimulus programs for things like recreational facilities were reviewed. More information will be available in the near future on these programs and how communities and/or groups can apply for them.  Following the workshop MP Benoit had a chance to speak with municipal representatives one-on-one about their specific proposals and to gather their feedback into the needs of the constituency.

“I’m happy to see the workshop was a great success with so many communities represented.  It was helpful to have Dr. Martin provide insight into the life-cycle of an application and the stages of the decision-making process. I hosted this workshop because I understand that dealing with all of the various permanent infrastructure programs and knowing about the new stimulus programs which are aimed at accelerating spending on roads, sewer projects, water systems, recreation facilities (one-time basis) etc is difficult for small communities and municipalities to handle.  The Conservative Government increased funding for infrastructure quite dramatically in their last budget which has made the application process temporarily more complex.  So I wanted to make sure that my constituents had a chance to understand the process. ” said Leon Benoit MP.
