OTTAWA (November 1,2011) – “I would like to thank all those who attended the town hall meetings throughout the riding just weeks ago” said Leon Benoit, Member of Parliament for Vegreville-Wainwright. Benoit was referring to the series of successful meetings he hosted mid October throughout the constituency.
Constituents who attended the meetings expressed their primary concerns which included the long gun registry, the Canadian Wheat Board monopoly, justice legislation and a variety of other issues.
Two of the events were held at schools where Mr. Benoit was pleased to meet with constituents, including a number of students to hear their questions and concerns. There was significant discussion on current events including potential labour strikes and copyright legislation. Many students expressed their views on the importance of using social media to engage youth in federal politics, their concerns of tuition costs for post secondary education, as well as a variety of other topics.
“It is so important to get youth involved, especially due to the recent low youth voter turnout. I appreciate the feedback I receive from students on how we can get them more involved,” stated Benoit.
“I value the time participants took to express their views on various federal issues including justice, the economy, agriculture and the long gun registry,” explained Benoit, “it is important for me to understand the concerns of constituents so I can share that feedback with my colleagues back in Ottawa and ensure the voices of Vegreville- Wainwright are heard.”
