OTTAWA – Leon Benoit, Member of Parliament for Vegreville-Wainwright, announced today that he is conducting pre-budget consultations with his constituents in the lead up to the Conservative government’s Spring 2011 budget. This will be done both through public meetings at the end of January, and with an online survey on his website (leonbenoit.ca).
“Thanks to the rapid and effective implementation of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, Canada is on the right track to emerge from the global economic recession powered by one of the strongest economies in the industrial world,” said Benoit. “As our Conservative Government prepares for Budget 2011, I personally invite constituents to make their voices heard as we work together to ensure Canada emerges from the global recession in a position of strength.”
“I will be holding a series of pre-budget consultation meetings throughout the constituency during the last week of January, and encourage people to check their local papers or visit my website for information on a meeting in their area” said Benoit. “I am also excited about launching an online pre-budget consultation survey on my website – leonbenoit.ca – and hope that constituents who are unable to attend a meeting can provide their feedback through this survey.”
Benoit said he is looking for input on ways in which the federal government can help families, businesses, and farmers without introducing new spending measures. “The budget our Government brought forward last Spring put forward a three point plan to reduce the deficit by winding down the stimulus spending in Canada’s Economic Action Plan, restraining government spending through targeted measures such as freezing the salaries of the Prime Minister, Ministers and Members of Parliament for the next two years, and launching a comprehensive review of government spending on administration and overhead,” Benoit explained. “As well as focusing on supporting Canada’s economic recovery and job creation, Budget 2011 will build on our plan to balance the budget. And I personally will continue to do everything I can do to encourage government to cut spending.”
“I look forward to hearing from constituents on how we can work towards securing the economic recovery and return to balanced budgets,” concluded Benoit. “I will be sharing the feedback from both the public meetings and online survey with the Finance Minister.”
