Investing In Our Canadian Forces
April 22, 2008

OTTAWA – “It is so rewarding to be part of a government which recognizes and supports their men and women in uniform,” states Leon Benoit, Member of Parliament for Vegreville-Wainwright. “Canadians are proud of the brave men and women of our Canadian Forces, and rightly so.”

The Conservative Government has increased funding to our men and women in uniform each year since our Government took office. Today, our Canadian Forces are benefiting from new investments in equipment ranging from boots to helicopters, to ships and satellite surveillance.

“Through this new support, members of our Canadian Forces are not only protecting our sovereignty at home, they can also be more help to those living in dangerous and unstable regions around the world,” explains Benoit.

Benoit is referring to the fact that Canada has come a long way. The Liberal government stripped the CF of funding and support and failed to stand up for Canadian sovereignty.

“Today, the world needs a strong Canada more than ever,” continues Benoit. “ Prime Minister Stephen Harper is providing clear direction and plans for our country. The Opposition parties are fixated on politics, while this Conservative government is working to make a better future for Canadians both internationally and here at home.”

As Benoit points out, today, Canada is back and, with more new investments for our Canadian Forces on the way, the future looks brighter than ever. Canada's military families expect and deserve the kind of strong support and real respect they are receiving from the Conservative Government.

“Through their courageous and selfless service, our Forces have secured Canada’s position on the world stage,” concludes Benoit. “A strong, confident Canada requires a strong, robust and healthy CF and this Conservative government will continue to invest in that goal.”
