Wainwright AB – Leon Benoit MP for Vegreville - Wainwright, Doug Griffiths MLA for Battle River – Wainwright, and Bob Barss, Reeve for the M.D. of Wainwright today celebrated the groundbreaking on the Ribstone Road project in the M.D. of Wainwright, which is one of many projects in the region helping to create jobs and boost the local economy.
This project will improve transportation efficiency and create local jobs, at a time when the need for economic stimulus is greatest.
“This project is one which will benefit the people of the M.D. of Wainwright. It is money well spent which will help position this community and Canada to better strengthen our economy after this recession is over,” said Leon Benoit. “As well, of course, it is money well spent because the cost of this project is considerably less than it would have been one year ago. These are bargain prices.”
“These projects are all critical infrastructure projects for these communities and I, and the members of our constituency, truly appreciate the investment the federal government is adding to the province's investment to ensure these projects are completed,” said Doug Griffiths.
“The ratepayers and other commuters will be the benefactors for years to come with the upgrades to this important connector road,” said Bob Barss. “The M.D would like to thank our MP Leon Benoit, the Alberta Minister of Transportation Luke Ouellette, our MLA Doug Griffiths and their staff for all the support that they have given the MD of Wainwright on these projects. The partnership between the MD of Wainwright and both levels of government has been invaluable as we work towards improving the transportation needs of our community.
The Governments of Canada and Alberta have each announced up to $750,000 toward this project. The M.D. of Wainwright will contribute the balance of the total estimated eligible costs of up to $4,110,000.
Federal support for this project is being provided through the $4-billion Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, a key component of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, which invests in infrastructure projects across Canada to stimulate economic activity and create jobs. Overall, the Government of Canada has invested $414.3 million in 236 projects under the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund across Alberta.
