MP Benoit announces Funding for Kitscoty Homecoming and Centennial Celebration

MANNVILLE, AB  (August 8, 2011) – Leon Benoit, MP, Conservative Member of Parliament for Vegreville-Wainwright, commented today on behalf of The Hon. James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage, on funding under the Building Communities through Arts and Heritage program received by the Celebrate Kitscoty Committee for the celebration of their centennial and homecoming event.

“Our Government is proud to support the Celebrate Kitscoty Committee,” said MP Leon Benoit on behalf of Minister Moore.  “By partnering with communities to support activities that celebrate our shared history and our rich cultural diversity, we are fulfilling our commitment to strengthen our communities and support arts, culture and heritage.”

The Celebrate Kitscoty Committee received $19,100 to help present their Homecoming and Centennial activities that will take place the weekend of August 18 to 21, 2011, marking the 100th anniversary of the incorporation of the Village of Kitscoty.

Committee Chairperson, Ellen Frank expressed their delight on receipt of the funding saying, "The funding from the Building Communities through Arts and Heritage program will be a definite boost to our celebration which will bring together young and old to celebrate in a variety of nostalgic activities August 18 to 21st, 2011."

The Government of Canada created the Building Communities through Arts and Heritage program in September 2007.  This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in local activities that present arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.  This program will benefit many community events and celebrations throughout Canada this year.
