MANNVILLE, AB (July 29, 2011) – Leon Benoit, MP, Conservative Member of Parliament for Vegreville-Wainwright, commented today on behalf of The Hon. James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage, on funding under the Building Communities through Arts and Heritage program received by the Homecoming Committee of Lougheed for the celebration of their centennial and homecoming event this summer.
“Our Government is proud to support the Lougheed Homecoming Committee,” said MP Leon Benoit on behalf of Minister Moore. “By partnering with communities to support activities that celebrate our shared history and our rich cultural diversity, we are fulfilling our commitment to strengthen our communities and support arts, culture and heritage.”
The Lougheed Homecoming Committee received $12,300 to help present their Homecoming and Centennial activities that will take place the weekend of August 12 to 14, 2011, marking the 100th anniversary of the incorporation of the Village of Lougheed.
Homecoming Committee spokesperson, Laurie Skori, expressed their delight on receipt of the funding saying, "This funding is a great asset in helping us to put on such a monumental event in our community."
The Government of Canada created the Building Communities through Arts and Heritage program in September 2007. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in local activities that present arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage. This program will benefit many community events and celebrations throughout Canada this year.
