June 05, 2009

TOFIELD, Alberta – Leon Benoit MP, Conservative Member of Parliament for Vegreville Wainwright, today met with Tofield Agricultural Society representatives to announce federal funding for the heritage celebration of the Town's 100th Anniversary.

“Our Government is proud to support the Tofield Agricultural Society,” said Minister Moore. “By partnering with communities to support activities that celebrate our shared history and our rich cultural diversity, we are fulfilling our commitment to strengthen our communities and support arts, culture and heritage.”

“It is important for Tofield and other communities to recognize and celebrate important milestones like the hundredth anniversary of their town,” says Benoit. “Our truly remarkable country of Canada is built community by community, one town at a time. All of those who have helped to strengthen their communities, and therefore our country, deserve to be recognized.”

The Tofield Agricultural Society has received funding of $25,500 to help present its Celebrate 100 - Town of Tofield event, which will take place from July 1st to July 5th, 2009.

The Government of Canada created the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program in September 2007. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in local activities that present arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage. This program will benefit many community events and celebrations throughout Canada this year.
