OTTAWA – “The NDP Members of Parliament claim to care about farmers and workers but their actions on the CN rail strike show that they don’t,” says Leon Benoit, Member of Parliament for Vegreville-Wainwright.
Benoit explains that NDP MPs in the House of Commons are using every tactic possible to block the Conservative government’s back-to-work legislation which would free up rail shipments out of Vegreville, Vermilion, Lloydminster and other towns in the area.
“They seem to think that the irresponsible actions of a few CN workers should be allowed to hold captive thousands of farmers, oil workers and people needing essential supplies,” continues Benoit. “I think this should be stopped now and my government is determined to make that happen.”
“Back-to-work legislation should be passed within two days and the disruptions should end at that time,” concludes Benoit. “Sadly, however, it will take some time to catch up with lost shipments.”
